We decided that we had to lay aside work, school & campaigning for the day and just spend one full day as a family. It is apparent that our type "a" personalities drive us to work 17 hours a day.....so it was time to put that to the side and focus on our family-with no interruptions.
We had a dr.'s & dentist appointment for Alex - then we spent the entire afternoon doing nothing in particular but being together. It was the best day we've had in a long, long time. We went bowling and ate french fries & tater tots. We went to the park in the Tri-Cities and played football & frisbee for hours. We played on the playground equipment and had "stick fights". Alex climbed a tree. Ryan & Alex went "fishing" along the bank of the river. Genevieve played her new recorder as loud as she could to entertain us. We even laid in the warm sun on blankets and told stories about Grant. My favorite was when Genevieve said the best thing she liked about Grant was his girlfriend Cherisse (smile smile). We played twenty questions.
How could such a simple day be so beautiful?
We also went to the bookstore and bought Grant plenty of stationary for writing home while he's gone for the next two years. He wanted a new tie and some gospel doctrine books for the MTC.
We finished the afternoon with ice cream at Baskin Robbins and a wrestling match of Alex & Ryan vs. Grant. The younger team prevailed....despite Genevieve jumping on top of the heap at the last minute.
It is so easy to lose sight on what's important, even when it's standing right in front of us.
Grant will fly out of Portland on Wednesday. We received a call from the Stake President on Monday. He reported that there are 200-300 missionaries awaiting Visa's into Brazil. They have all been re-routed to Provo until they come through. So......Grant will be making a stop for approx. 5 weeks until the government issues the documentation. He was ready for Brazil, but is anxious to begin learning Portuguese at the MTC in Provo. He'll be on his way in no time!
Last night Matt was honored for being the highest team scorer (basketball); 348 overall points & led in assists at 53. He also received 1st team Eastern Oregon League recognition, as well as Team Captain. His next baseball game; Friday in Irrigon.
How blessed we are by this thing called "family".
