Had a good seminary lesson today. Well, correction, it wasn't the lesson that made it good, it was the discussion that took off from that lesson.
When I was called as a seminary teacher I thought, "What (and how) could I possibly teach these kids?" You know, sometimes it's not always about the black & white, concrete things that you teach, but the discussions and life lessons that you take from that hour with 9 high school students. Some days are not the easiest, and some days are pretty successful! Thankful that today was a blessing.
Alex is getting ready for the big day. This weekend, we begin obtaining all the items on the lists. He has gained so much weight since wrestling, I don't want to buy his clothes just yet however! I went and bought him two suits for the week that he worked at the Capitol during spring break.....and they are already too small! He is over 170 lbs.....and he wrestled at 132! The week of Nationals and dropping Alex off at the MTC will be a busy one. So excited for him! What is your bet...do you think he'll come home saying "ya'all"?
Ryan is still beating the streets to find his entry fee $$ for Nationals. Nothing like watching a kid work for what he wants. Makes a Mama proud! On the not-so-plus side, he is currently grounded from ESPN (and all related affiliates) for having a C in two classes. So, if you see Ryan, tell him a score or two, or better yet, tell him he missed the greatest NBA game of all time last night. I need something to "kick start" him back in gear!!!! He has quite the case of spring fever.
Grant made it home safely. Oddly enough, he decided to go through Nevada this time. He locked his keys in his car. Rather than go into the gas station he was currently parked at, he had an impression to go up two blocks to a different gas station to see if they had someone or something that could get his car open. While walking, he passed a young man and woman begging for spare change with a sign. As he approached them to give a few dollars, the girl jumps up and hugs him and calls him by name. Remember, this kid is driving across Nevada at night and this happens. He looks at her and recognizes that he attended seminary with her. She is stranded and needs a ride to Salt Lake City. Great, he doesn't even have keys to get into his car. So the young woman's boyfriend breaks into Grants car (in like 12 seconds), so Grant gives them a ride to Salt Lake City. His heart is broken when the girl tells him that she has been doing, and is currently on meth. She moves around from place to place and is hoping she can stay with some friends. Her boyfriend doesn't comment much. They talk about the church and old times. He drops them off at a public library and gives them all the change he has in his car. This really affected him, and he called me after he dropped them off. It is such a hard thing when your kids see the stark reality of the world. I hated that he had to go through that, but it was a testimony to the things that can happen when you get off-course. I'm so grateful that it was a safe drive and he was able to help her. She really is a talented young lady that has so much worth. I hope she recognizes that worth and is able to make some changes in her life. Would be nice to see her reunited with her family again.
Matt's preparing for 3 mid-terms. Enough said on that....the poor kid is working hard and staying up late. Missing him. Cannot wait until he's home and working close by. Crossing my fingers an internship arrives for him.
And then there is Genevieve. Little Missy has gotten herself "hooked" on the Harry Potter books! Loving it! I love having kids who bury their noses in books. The adventures...the fun...the mysteries we find in written stories!!!!! Last night we laid together and read a few pages before she fell fast asleep. Probably dreaming about Hogwarts!
