It has been Homecoming Week in Heppner. Our favorite day; Rock Star! Alex was a member of Kiss (with a mohawk) and Ryan was a guitarist with long, black hair. That same day, Genevieve was able to meet the Author & Illustrator for the book "Twas the Night Before Round-Up". She dressed like a cowgirl. It has been a very fun week for all three kids! The Noise Parade was my favorite. The kids had a blast in the parade and loved marching down the street to the Pep Rally at the Fairgrounds. Oh yes, and the tug-o-war was also a blast (despite piles of muddy, muddy clothes the next morning) .....with a GREAT bonfire afterwards. Lots of neat pictures so they will have these memories in years to come.
It's now 11:52 p.m. and I'm exhausted! I have been up since 4:30 a.m. and ran like a crazy woman today.....but I was able to accomplish all that I set out to do (yeah me!). We had a great turn-out for the football fundraiser (BBQ) and the Homecoming Court looked beautiful this evening (and Heppner beat Umatilla!). One thing however, a Umatilla player was injured and was taken by Life Flight. Our prayers are with the young man. May his health return quickly.
Speaking of football; yesterday, Ryan had the BEST game of his career! In the last few minutes of the game; he stopped a touchdown. This kid had open-field tackles that were AMAZING! He is really getting this "football" thing down. We were so excited for his success! He plays again next Thursday against Riverside.
I rushed around today so that I could have a loan committee meeting from 7-8 a.m., get Greg off to Wheeler County, take Alex to get his learners permit and do some errands while in Hermiston. Well, the morning activities went well, but the afternoon was a rushed hysteria! I had to be back in time to get Alex to his convoy, purchase and pack the items Matt needs to move to Corvallis this weekend and still manage to get enough desserts for the BBQ Pork feed. Ever notice things do not always go as planned? I never made it to my appointment at the auto dealership and the DMV was closed today due to "budget constraints". Genevieve decided she didn't want Burger King, so she just wasn't going to eat. I told her that was fine, and that made her even more angry (little goof-ball). She had a frown on her face for most of the day. I told her, "Some days are like that, even in Austrailia" (a quote from one of our favorite books........Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day).
I'm now off to Jenny's home to make "Waffle Tacos" for the kids coming after the dance (which ends in just about an hour). Such a GREAT, GREAT group of kids Alex is with tonight. His date seemed very nice. She speaks 4 different languages and is staying with Stephanie Scheuler and her mother. He was so nervous............but looked awesome!!!!!! Genevieve giggled the entire time and I heard her say "Hey Alex, what if you get your first kiss tonight?". Too cute, I couldn't interupt the brother-sister moment. She really looks up to those big brother of hers.
Matt leaves for Corvallis tomorrow. He is going to do so GREAT! Packed him a huge box of Ramen Noodles (not the chicken....he hates the chicken kind!), a power strip, a mini-fridge and XL sheets for the dorm. I made a zillion phone calls; including a call to my old boss at the health clinic to see if they would "squeeze" him in to get his last immunizations (an appointment that made him not-too-happy). Got him a new bike lock also. This kid is set - I can't wait to see how well he is going to do. So proud of you Matt!!!!
Tomorrow brings a Children's Park dedication in memory of Trevor Fox, then we are off to a soccer game. Can't wait to see how our little "Pink Lady" does tomorrow.
