Have you ever had those days where there is just not enough hours to do everything?
Today is my day. So I decided to take 10 minutes and write a blog (good use of time....right?) I need a lunch break! Besides the huge plate I have in front of me at my desk (3 loan requests, a B&I, an SBA request and the monitoring of all my current credits) - I have "mom" duties up to my elbows! Anyone interested in baking a cake, working the fund raising bbq for 2 hours and supplying 3 dozen cookies or cupcakes for me tomorrow? I won't even begin telling you my duties for Saturday! In addition, I just talked to Matt and he needs his gas cap back (long story), but I can't make it up to Boardman today. He's at work all day and can't make it down. Today is also the day that I MUST order his textbooks. I went through the process of finding out about parking permits and other necessities yesterday. I'm still getting over the Matriculation Fee of $300.00 that is not included in his tuition, housing or meal plan bill. Yikes!
Ryan woke up vomiting. His number was 389 and he had some keytones. That is just not a normal occurrence, so I had him stay home. He didn't want to stay home....he wanted to go to school so he can go to football practice later today. One track mind these boys....SPORTS! Matt would never miss a day because he didn't want to take finals (perfect attendance = no finals). So the kid would be on his deathbed with a terrible cold....and he would still go to school. It use to drive me insane! Dentist, doctor and orthodontia appointments were always made at weird times so he could have perfect attendance AND go to practice. Ughhhh (I say with a smile). At least they have shown tremendous loyalty to their teams and personal goals. Now that is something to be thankful for (how could a Mom not support that?). He's now back at school, but calling me each hour with an update. Not sure what I'm going to do when he heads off to college and then a mission. Guess we'll both just have to go!
I'm not sure if Alex's new found quest to learn Spanish will kill him......or me. We practice every night. It has been a lot of years since I took Spanish! I'm re-learning, and it's an adventure. Seriously, it is fun learning with one of our kids, and despite the jokes it is a blessing. He took a break last night and played Ultimate Frisbee. He's working really hard this year........makes me so proud!
This last weekend brought a 955 round-trip adventure to Gold Beach and California. We had a lot of fun. We did all the tourist things, but then just found an entire afternoon to sit on the beach and play. Alex & Greg took a long walk on the jetty while Gen, Ryan and I played in the sand. Gen and I dug holes. I would venture to say that we built sand castles, but it was more like sand "lumps". Then........out of nowhere, Tsunami Ryan attacked. Our castles were (sadly) destroyed in the attack. No survivors. After a few hours of torturing his little sister, Ryan grew tired and ran back to our hotel. When we arrived back, the television was turned up (to the max I believe) with NFL football. Ryan was in a tub full of bubbles. I won't even tell you how much water was on the floor. He blamed the poor, little, shaking dog in the corner - but between you and me, I know who was responsible.
Speaking of She-poo - she has found her new passion; chasing Seagulls. This dog hates the bathtub and hates our pool. Why is it she LOVES the ocean water? She ran and ran on the beach, went into the waves and found Seagulls everywhere. One puppy against the masses of Seagulls; it was a sight!
We tried something new on this trip also - riding a two-seat ATV on the sand dunes. We had so much fun! Gen, Alex & Ryan all had their own quads, but we took turns driving the vehicle (yes - - - we all took the "test" before we went out. I have the license to prove it!). After we were done, I sent a text to Matt telling him about our fun. I had been bugging him all weekend to make sure he was ok (he had our boat for his days off, and after a nasty spill that cut his head last week - I wanted to make sure he was alive and ok!). His response, "Glad you're having fun, I just unplugged a sewer". I told him that he would be blessed for working so hard for college $$$$$$. I don't believe he saw it that way at that particular moment in time.
We also went to the Prehistoric Gardens, Wildlife Safari and the Oregon Caves. Our tour guide at the caves was so nice and very helpful. Once we had signed up and paid our fees, we advanced to the "learning" portion of the tour. Another family was paying and joining our group, so the instructor waited for them. Former Senator Charlie Ringo, his wife Julie and their two sons came around the corner and we all laughed. What are the odds that we would be visiting the same place on the same day? We had a blast together.
The Gold Beach game did not turn out so well; Heppner JV & Varsity lost. It was a fun time though - and a great learning experience for our players. We play Culver this week - Go Mustangs! Gen's first soccer game is on Saturday. She is a member of the "Pink Ladies" soccer team (how cute is that?????). Ryan will officially kick-off his football season with a Jamboree at Athena.

P.S.......Don't forget to: 1) Buy a ticket for the sophomore class dessert raffle on Friday night and 2) Come to the football fundraiser BBQ before the game at the Annex building! I'll be the (loudly) cheering Mom with smeared cupcake frosting and hamburger juice on her sweatshirt.
